3 Intentions You Should Set for the New Year

The new year is full of possibilities, this is the time to set intentions for the year to come and to reflect on the year you’ve had.

The time right before the new year is the perfect time to reflect on the year you’ve had. It’s a time to prepare yourself and set intentions for what you want the new year to look like. This looks different for everyone, but it always a good idea to have a loose plan for what you want to accomplish in the coming year. I say loose because if we try to go all out right away and stick to a rigid routine, we surly are to fall out of it. If we truly want to change, it is best to start by incorporating small things into our routine. Each of these small things can add up to changes that will have us looking and feeling our best.

This past year was personally a difficult one for me. I am very ready to say goodbye to 2022. I recall this time last year I was so excited to make changes. I had a workout routine in place, goals for what I wanted to accomplish in my work, and hobbies I wanted to keep up with. Never would I foresee that two months into the new year I would face health issues that would be unresolved for months. Everything I had hoped and planned for fell by the wayside. This time around, I am in a much healthier place, but have learned that as I plan for 2023, I need to understand that I don’t know what the year is going to throw at me. So it is best to stick to small changes and not feel ashamed if 2023 is not my “perfect year.”

If you are looking for some intentions for the year to come, here are some ideas to aim for:

Move your body

Move your body anyway that feels good for you! Taking a walk or hitting the gym even once a week will have you feeling great. And you can always work up to more depending on how you feel. Rigid workout routines can be difficult to keep up with, so don’t put pressure on yourself with the strict routine immediately on January first.

New Years resolution exercise

For 2023, I am hoping to start running again. I used to be a big runner and have missed that adrenaline. I want to sign up for a 5K to have something to train for. I also would love to do yoga during the week to stretch out and strengthen my body. I hope to start incorporating running into my routine three days a week. Yoga I think I will planning on doing at least once a week, or more depending on what feels good. I also want to find other ways to move my body that do not have a strict schedule such as taking walks, snowshoeing, hiking, and swimming.

Having better discipline for hobbies

Hobbies are so important. They offer us an outlet, ways to be creative, and time to enjoy. Maybe work has taken over and you just feel so burnt out at the end of the day. Try to get into the habit of better disciplining yourself to enjoy a hobby before endlessly scrolling your phone until bedtime.

New Years hobbies

I started working full time this past year, and have found myself wanting to participate in hobbies but falling short because of how sleepy I am in the evening. Or the fact that some evenings I have plans and am not home. For the evenings I am available, I really want to focus on writing this blog, scrapbooking or reading. I really enjoy these things and want to incorporate them into my new year routine even if it is for a short amount of time when I’m able.

Have adventures

Travel is something we all love. In 2023, a great intention is to travel and see more, even if it is your own town. Maybe check out a local museum, hiking spot, or beach you’ve never visited!

New year travel

I already have a trip planned for the beginning of the new year, but I really want to plan to have adventures any chance I get. This includes checking some new spots out in my area. Living in New York, I’ve never even seen the Statue of Liberty or Empire State Building, I’d love to make plans to check out these locations. My family is also hoping to take a trip over the summer to New England.

Whatever 2023 throws your way, I hope that you have a great new year!
