Cape Cod Beach Home Exterior Inspiration
Ever dream of owning a vacation home on Cape Cod? These inspiring photographs set the mood of these beach home exteriors.
As a graduate student working toward a certificate in interior design, there are a sequence of core classes I have to take each semester to complete the program. The classes start with Drawing and Presentation and work their way up to Interior Design I, Interior Design II, and so forth. This semester I am taking Interior Design II. Our semester-long project is designing a vacation home for a family on a beach somewhere. I chose Cape Cod, as I am enthralled by New England’s architecture.
The first step in the design process is the problem statement, or the basic nature of the project. This includes getting a basic understanding of what your client is looking for in the design of their space. My professor had us also pick out exterior inspiration photos so we can start to picture our project. Here are the photos I’ve selected from Pinterest.
Cedar shingles are a beautiful staple for coastal homes in New England. They just look better and beachy as they age. Hydrangeas are also popular for landscaping, as their blooms add stunning color in the warm months.
For our project, the home is right on the beach.
Coastal New England homes have perfected curb appeal.
Having a grand front porch is ideal for catching an ocean breeze. Morning coffee on a comfy front porch seat sounds like an ideal situation.
Bay windows add dimension and are a cozy addition to the home. It’s an added bonus when you have a window seat in your bay window for reading.
Love the idea of columns!
Elevated garage doors, especially when they are on the front of the home can up curb appeal.
