Decorating Your Home: Warm Minimalism

Warm minimalism is a style that is for the person who loves natural light, warm summer breezes, and soft lighting on chilly evenings. They find value in knowing less is more.

Warm minimalism is timeless, and is a popular option for decorating your home. It features warm, earthy tones, and natural elements like wood.

The Kitchen

When I envision a warm minimalist kitchen, I think of countertops with minimal appliances (keep those you don’t use often away in cabinets or a pantry). The cabinets are either white, or earthy colors (like a nice soft green). There are wood elements featured throughout, with perhaps wooden utensils and cutting boards on display.

The countertops are butcher block, or white granite. The backsplash is white, and if there is a vent hood over the stove it is probably white as well. Dress the area with soft wispy flowers in a vase such as baby’s breath or dried florals. Gold or copper hardware are featured on the cabinets, and match either a gold or copper faucet.

The Living Room

Neutral colored sofas or love seats dress the living room, inviting you to sit and relax after a long day. Of course, the couches have comfy pillows if you choose to take a little snooze. An easy way to add warm to any living room would be by adding comfortable blankets wither in a basket in the room, or folded nicely on the couch. A knit blanket embodies the warm minimalist style, and is comforting in the chilly months.

Natural wood coffee tables or side tables invite you to place your warm cup of coffee (on a coaster of course!). A patterned rug in neutral tones add an extra layer of warmth to the room. In the evening, lamps filter their warm yellow light in the room and there is often a candle lit.

The Bedroom

Bedrooms the embody warm minimalism have lamps that decorate either side of the bed, with neutral earthy nightstands underneath. Maybe your latest read sits on the nightstand, with no other clutter. The be linens are off-white and are layered with a large, knit blanket. If the linens aren’t white they are probably a soft green or terracotta color. A neutral, patterned rug takes its place under the bed for chilly feet when you have to get up early.

On the weekends, light filters into the room while you lounge in bed till late morning. Artwork or black and white pictures of family sit above the earthy headboard (if there is one). There are layers of pillows on the bed, which proudly take their place every morning when you make your bed.
