Whether you just have a small entryway in front of an apartment, or a large front porch on your house, decorating the exterior of your home for fall is an excellent way to embrace the season.
If you’re driving around this time of year, you are likely to spot pumpkins, scarecrows, spooky lawn skeletons, and more whimsical decorations in front of people’s homes. Adding these elements makes your curb appeal festive for fall, and can really get you in the spirit for this harvest season.
Pumpkins
This is a given, pumpkins are essential for decorating the front of your home. Having pumpkins line the stairs on your porch, or layering them with mums is a fall staple. Getting different varieties of pumpkins as well as different colored mums (red and orange are ideal).
Harvest Wreath
Especially if you have a small space, a harvest wreath is the perfect option to add a touch of autumn to your space. There are so many wreath options, from a wreath made from natural materials to more durable wreaths with faux foliage.
Straw Bales
Layering straw bales creates the perfect harvest scene in the fall time. They are ideal for topping with pumpkins and mums. They are perfect for a harvest vibe, and you can often find straw bales for sale at local farms (if you are in an area where you live by farms, like here in upstate New York).
Dried Corn Stalks
Corn stalks pair beautifully with orange pumpkins and the changing leaves. Like straw bales, they add a natural decor element to the front of your home. They often can be purchased at local farm stands and farms as well, a favorite spot I’ve gone to get them is Wright’s Farm Market.
Scarecrow or Skeleton
You can’t not love a scarecrow in the fall or a skeleton for spooky season. Adding one of these to your harvest scene is a whimsical touch, whether you have them sitting on a bench or chair on your front porch, or on a straw bale.
