If you are hoping to create an office nook in your home, including these five elements will make your space feel comfortable.
If you work from home, or tend to spend a good amount of time on the computer for extra tasks, having a dedicated workspace in your home is essential. But if you find that you can’t dedicate a whole room to an office setup, it’s a great idea to turn a little nook in your home into a dedicated workspace.
Having a specific place that we use to do computer work is helpful when it is time to unplug. Being able to physically walk away from a space to unplug helps to calm our minds. Even if that space is in a corner of our living room or den, we can make it a cozy and productive space.
Having the Perfect Size Desk
It’s important to not have a desk that is too large for our space. Taking measurements of the corner you want to place a desk is essential to making sure it fits appropriately and provides proper balance. There are so many options to purchase desks, with many affordable options at places such as Target, Amazon, and Facebook Marketplace. We want to make sure that the desk we select is an appropriate color that is fitting in the space, and the bulkiness/ heaviness of the desk is fitting with other furniture.
A Cozy Lamp
Instead of having a glaring lamp on our desk, opt for a lighting option that is soft to help maintain a relaxed mood while you are at the computer. Rather than choosing a traditional desk lamp, it feels more homey to choose a lamp with a shade (something you would perhaps see on a nightstand). Choosing a lamp in this style makes it feel more like home than a office-type environment.
Natural Light
If your space allows, placing your desk near a window can allow you to feel more productive during the day. In addition, if the weather is nice, opening the window for fresh air can help to keep your mind focused. It is most ideal to have your desk facing a window, rather than a wall, as you can gaze outside when taking your eyes away from you work.
Aesthetic Keyboard
I’m sure you’ve seen a plethora of aesthetic keyboards on social media. Having a nice keyboard can really elevate your desk space, especially if you have more than one monitor. An option that looks visually appealing and is comfortable for you to type on is preferred. There are countless options that can fit any aesthetic you are going for.
A Comfortable Desk Chair
Your chair can really make or break your space (and your back). Having an option with lumbar support is excellent for supporting your lower back and maintaining posture. If you are in a small space, it may be ideal for you to select a chair that does not have arms to get rid of bulkiness. I recently ordered a midcentury style chair from Amazon, and am excited to try it out! It appears to be both functional and beautiful. It is important to remember that from the back of our chair we want to leave around three feet of space between a wall or other furniture, so we can functionally push and pull the chair out from under the desk.
