Perfect Weekend Escape in Saratoga Springs, New York
Known for horse racing, spa treatments, and of course, the springs, Saratoga Springs is an ideal weekend getaway for those seeking a break from the hustle and bustle.
I recently took a weekend trip with my boyfriend to Saratoga Springs, and I think it is safe to say I will be back. From a thriving food scene to nightlife, this is the perfect location for a long weekend or if you are planning a bachelorette or bachelor party (as this is a popular New York Destination for this).
Lodging Recomendations
Average Nightly Rate: Around $250 a night on the weekends
If you are hoping to be central to dining, parks, and nightlife, this is the spot for you. What is unique is that the Spa City Motor Lodge is a re-imagined motor lodge that is updated and beautifully modern. Not to mention they have a coffee bar with specialty coffees on tap. This is where I stayed when I went to Saratoga. I will say that when there front parking lot is full, you have to park in the back municipal lot/ garage which wasn’t too convenient.
Hilton Garden Inn Saratoga Springs
Average Nightly Rate: Around $265 a night
You just can’t go wrong with a Hilton. With guaranteed on-site parking, beautiful rooms and an indoor pool you just know what to expect. This is located a mile from downtown Saratoga Springs. I believe this is where I will stay when I take a trip to Saratoga again.

Day One
Head right to Saratoga Spa State Park to check out the springs! The best trail for seeing the springs is the Geyser Loop Trail, which is a 2.9 mile loop around the state park. You will travel through beautiful forest scenery. After your time at the park, head over to check into your hotel and get settled. For a delicious filling dinner and an amazing cocktail to kick off your vacation, head to Cantina. I recommend the frozen strawberry margarita and the fish tacos. Finish with an order of churros for dessert, but note that you may need a to-go box as they give you a whole pile with chocolate dipping sauce! Later in the evening, head to one of the many bars in Saratoga Springs for drinks and dancing, I recommend the Night Owl for its outdoor DJ and fire.
Day Two
For the second day of your trip, you have to start out by grabbing breakfast at Uncommon Grounds. They have delicious coffee and latte options, I of course recommend the iced chai latte. And for breakfast, choose one of the delectable breakfast sandwiches with a house-made bagel. Or simply enjoy a fresh bagel with cream cheese, jelly, or hummus. Once your belly is fueled for the day, head over to Congress Park for a stroll. If you’re lucky, you may see some baby ducklings. After a peaceful walk take in gorgeous views of the Adirondacks on the Spruce Mountain Firetower trail (about a 30 min drive from Saratoga Springs). Note that the trail is moderate so there is some uphill. If you’re scared of heights challenge yourself and climb to the top of the firetower (the views are totally worth it). Once you’ve enjoyed your trek (that should take about two hours to complete), stop at lunch on the way back at Fierro’s Pizzeria (the Philly Steak sandwich is really good). After lunch, relax at your hotel a while or walk through the shops in Saratoga Springs, finish the day with dinner at Druthers Brewing Company and a trip to the Saratoga Casino.
Day Three
Since Saratoga Springs is only a 30 minute from Lake George, take the time to spend the day there! First, if you love horses head up to Circle B Ranch in the early morning to take a lovely trail ride, one or two hour ride options are available. Then, head back down to Lake George (a 25 minute ride) and spend some time at the beach, and shopping around. You have to check out The Lemonade Parlor and of course Ben & Jerry’s. Enjoy a relaxing dinner overlooking the water at Lake George Beach Club. Also stop by Pirate’s Cove for mini golf after dinner before heading back to Saratoga.
Day Four
After checking out of your hotel, head to SPoT Coffee for an outrageously good omelet and coffee (or chai tea). Check out Saratoga Spa State Park one last time and make a pit-stop at Saratoga Lake before heading home.
*We didn’t see any horse races on our trip, but are hoping to go back in the future to attend one!
