Scandinavian Interior Design Inspiration

Influenced by soft lighting, natural materials, and neutral finishes, it’s easy to see why Scandinavian inspired design is popular.
This semester, I am designing a 3,500 square foot apartment and have decided to create a Scandinavian inspired interior. My focus is on soft lines, comfort, and beautiful neutrals.
To begin the project, I found inspiration photos on Pinterest to hone in exactly what I was doing for my design. The board I curated is picture below.
What to Implement in Scandinavian Design
1. Light Wood Furniture
For my project, I will be incorporating light wood in a variety of furniture pieces. Light wood is the perfect neutral, and looks comforting in soft lighting. Some examples of light wood are pine, birch, and oak. Article offers some stunning furniture that features light wood and is Scandinavian in design.
2. Neutral Linens and Paint
White and beige sofas, bedding, and other linens are popular in this style. I noted that from the inspiration photos I gathered, not many pieces had heavy patterns and were more often solid in color.
3. Greenery
Adding plants can really accent that natural look. It’s important to carefully select which plants you are using in your home, and you don’t want too many plants in a way that creates clutter.
4. No Clutter
Scandinavian interiors are minimalist in style, they often do not have clutter. Keeping surfaces clear of clutter, having enough storage, and occasionally purging your home can help you achieve a minimalist look.
