What to do in Disney World’s Hollywood Studios

Stroll down the streets of Hollywood at Disney World’s Hollywood Studios. Check out these tips on what to do at Hollywood Studios during your trip.

When I went to Disney World years ago with my parents when I was younger, we only spent half the day at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, if that. But this past time I went, I spent the entire day in this park. Maybe it was because of all of the Star Wars attractions that have been added over the past few years, the park seemed like there was more to do. I’d also say that Hollywood Studios is geared toward teens and older, rather than small children.

On the day we went to Hollywood Studios we woke up bright and early and ran down to get breakfast at our hotel. Disney’s Art of Animation Resort’s Island of Flavor. I grabbed a chocolate muffin and filled my refillable cup with Joffery’s coffee. We then went to jump in line for Disney’s Skyliner, which takes us to Hollywood Studios. The line for the Skyliner was long this morning, everyone was going to early park admission or trying to “rope drop,” get there right when the park opens.

The Skyliner drops you right up front near the parking lot at Hollywood Studios. When we arrived we went right to our Genie+ reservation at Star Tours. I absolutely love this ride it is so cool! And as we found out, each time you go on the ride the sequence you fly through is different. There are numerous combinations of scenarios that the computer pulls right when the ride starts. After Star Tours, we did Slinky Dog Dash, which was only about an hour wait time. Then we got on Rockin’ Rollercoaster (one of my absolute favorites and a must-ride for any rollercoaster lover).

After we got off the Rockin’ Rollercoaster we stopped at a pretzel stand right outside the ride and got a sweet cream cheese stuffed pretzel. This was my absolute favorite snack in all of Disney. It was so, so delicious and something I think everyone should try. We went back later in the trip to get another pretzel because they were just so good.

Then we took a break for a while and went to go see the Muppets show, which is always a classic must-see at Hollywood Studios. Speaking of classic shows, you of course must go see the Indiana Jones stunt show. We went to this after our lunch reservation at 2:20 p.m. at the Hollywood Brown Derby Restuarant.

After the Muppets, we relaxed on a bench waiting for our lunch reservation time. We watched a parade come through.

For lunch, at the Hollywood Brown Derby, I got Wild Mushroom Risotto, which was just out of this world! Some of the mushrooms were pickled and the risotto was in some type of coconut cream sauce. It was so delicious! At this restaurant, there is an extensive drink menu, but we just got two non-alcoholic drinks, mostly because they came with a souvenir light-up ice cube!

After lunch, as I mentioned, we saw the Indiana Jones show. Then after digesting for a while, we went to our Genie+ reservation for the Hollywood Tower of Terror. I really do not like this ride, but I know there are plenty of people who love it. Genie+ allowed us to walk right onto the ride.

Since I was so shaken up from the Tower of Terror, I had to get a drink after. I got a Frozen Golden Margarita from Anaheim Produce, which is very close to the Tower of Terror. I liked this, but it was not my favorite, as there were strings of fruit or something on the bottom. Or maybe that was part of my paper straw, who knows.

I finished up my margarita as we waited in line for Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance. This was a long, long wait. I think it was probably about two hours or more. But it was so worth it! The ride was awesome, better than I imagined. I had watched part of the Imagineering Story episode on this ride so that just made the entire experience all the more awesome.

I don’t want to spoil anything, but there is a drop on this ride that is apparently 2/3 the size of the Tower of Terror drop. But, it is so much better than the Tower of Terror in my opinion because you are not anticipating the drop the entire time.

After this ride, we rode Minnie and Mickey’s Runaway Railway, which is definitely not a ride to be missed. It is so imaginative and brings you right into the cartoon. We regret that we were not able to go on this ride twice during this trip.

That just about wraps up our day. I believe this night we went back to the hotel early, got dinner, and went to bed. We were not able to ride on Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run this day because we ran out of time, but we did come back to ride that another day before we left. Which is not to be missed! This ride is interactive and each person has a different job based on where they are seated in the Millenium Falcon.
